
The conference will be held at the University's conference site located in a green, leafy suburb of Leicester about 4 km from the city centre. Facilities include high quality, newly built accommodation (574 en-suite rooms), tailored meeting rooms, social spaces, exhibition space and wireless networks. The conference venue is set within landscaped, attractive gardens. In the vicinity of the conference venue, there is a large Botanical garden. Leicester is easily accessible by plane, train, coach, bus and car. Travel times to London is just over one hour by train. East Midlands and Birmingham airports are less than 45 minutes away.
Leicester has seen massive investment in recent years culminating in the opening of a new shopping centre, the Highcross, in September 2008. This new centre boasts a new John Lewis store. The are many eating, drinking and social outlets in and around the city. Leicester is also home to the National Space Centre.
The University of Leicester is one of the UK's leading research and teaching universities. It is a member of the 1994 Group of Universities. For the past three years, the University has recorded the highest average score for overall satisfaction amongst mainstream universities in England in the National Student Satisfaction Survey. The University was ranked 12th in the Independent Good University Guide.
Remote sensing research is undertaken in the Departments of Geography, Physics and Chemistry. Leicester is also a partner in the NERC Centre for Earth Observation Instrumentation.
