We are very pleased to offer delegates the chance to participate in the following workshops that are being associated with the RSPSoc 2009 conference. The worshops will be held outside the formal conference hours. Regitration for the workshops will be offered during the registration process for the RSPSoc 2009 conference using the conftool system. Please click on 'Registration' in the left hand menu for details. If you would like to attend a workshop but are not interested in the main conference then please contact us on rspsoc2009@le.ac.uk. Details and a downloadable flyer for each workshop is shown below. Please note that there may be a charge for you to attend the workshop. Any University accommodation that you need can be booked through conftool.
| NERC Airborne Research and Survey Facility Workshop |
| This free workshop will provide a forum for past ARSF supported projects and to provide guidance and training for new or potential users. The ARSF have supported several International campaigns in recent years and intend to have presentations from a number of these projects. Additionally, recent instrument purchases, instrument retirements, data processing developments and a change of our base of operations may be of relevant interest to the EO community. There will be a preview of what ARSF's activities are likely to be in 2010 and 2011. Cost = £0. This workshop runs from 12.00 on Monday 7th September to 13.00 on Tuesday 8th September at the RSPSoc 2009 conference venue. Lunch and refreshment breaks are being offered by NERC on both days. You will need to book and pay for any accommodation separately (University accommodation is available for booking through conftool). You will be asked to confirm your attendance at the workshop by email approximately one month prior to the event. This will assist us with planning for catering etc.

| Discover Landmap - Spatial Resources for Academia |
| Landmap is a Mimas service funded by and based at The University of Manchester. They are holding this free workshop to bring to the attention of academics and teaching practitioners the very latest information about access to EO data. The workshop will include both seminar and practical sessions. Full computing facilities and IT support is included, you will not need your own laptop. Cost = £0. This workshop runs from 10.00-13.00 on Tuesday 8th September at the RSPSoc 2009 conference venue. Lunch and a refreshment break are being offered by MIMAS. You will need to book and pay for any accommodation separately (University accommodation is available for booking through conftool). You will be asked to confirm your attendance at the workshop by email approximately one month prior to the event. This will assist us with planning for catering etc.

| Remote Sensing of Fire for National Greenhouse Gas Accounting |
| This course, in association with the EC FP6 CarboAfrica project, aims to bring together international experts in the field of remote sensing of fire and carbon emissions to provide a training course combining state of the art science with the practicalities of reporting emissions from biomass burning under IPCC guidelines. The course is aimed at a range of stake holders, from research students and associates interested in the fire science and observations of fire activity to professionals with some knowledge of geospatial techniques (GIS or remote sensing). The course is particularly relevant to government agencies responsible for national communications to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), i.e. the technical process of greenhouse gas accounting. Support is available through the UN FAO for interested parties from African countries. The workshop combines both lectures and practical experiments. The course will also be of interest to academics, researchers and students interested in fire science. This workshop runs from 09.00 on Monday 7th September to 13.00 on Tuesday 8th September. Bookings and payments are being taken by the conftool system as part of the registration process for RSPSoc 2009. Please note that registration for RSPSoc 2009 is not included in the workshop fee. You will need to book and pay for any accommodation separately (University accommodation is available for booking through conftool). Please note that financial support is available for nationals of African countries to attend the workshop. Details are provided in the workshop flyer. The fee shown includes access to all the lectures and practicals, lecture handouts, lunches, dinners and refreshments as shown in the preliminary programme above. It also includes transport between the University accommodation and the workshop venue on the University campus.
